Do you always take the cheapest estimate?

June 11, 2015

I don't know about you, but here are some things I NEVER DO:

  •  Walk onto a car lot and say "I want the cheapest car you have on the lot."

  • Walk into a jewellry store and say "Give me the cheapest diamond ring you have in the store."

  • Call a real estate agent and offer to buy "the cheapest house you have listed on the market."

Of course not... the reason is obvious.  Yet there are still people who will take the cheapest quote when it comes to home renovations like shingling the roof, adding an addition to their home, or in our case, painting their home.

The vast majority of people have no experience in home renovations, so if the only criteria that a homeowner uses is "the cheapest", that person will in all likelihood get exactly what he or she paid for.  And a lot of times, they will be so dissatisfied that they will either pay another contractor to get the job done again or attempt to do it themselves, causing the "cheapest" job to in some cases cost more than the same job done in a professional manner.

Here is a post from a website that provides guidelines when requesting quotations for interior or exterior painting projects:

Check it out, and if you have a home reno project that requires the services of a painting contractor in the Hamilton, Oakville, Burlington area, why not take advantage of our 35+ years of experience. We may not be the "cheapest" quote you will get, but we think we will be the BEST!
